Webinar: What Does Albania's Flamingo Revolution Mean for Europe?

For weeks, tens of thousands have taken to the streets in Albania. They are protesting against corruption, environmental destruction, and abuse of power. Citizens are raising their voices against their own government and against unscrupulous billionaires like Donald Trump and his family. The “Flamingo Revolution” is not just an environmental movement – it also addresses questions of democracy, the rule of law, and Europe’s future.

What is the situation on the ground? How can the EU ensure that environmental law and citizen participation are not sacrificed to narrow economic interests? And what can we do together to support the Flamingo Revolution in Albania? These are the topics we’ll explore in this webinar.

Participants:

  • MEP Jutta Paulus and I will report on our recent trip to Albania.
  • Joni Vorpsi from the Albanian nature conservation organization PPNEA will provide insights into the protests and the affected Vjosa-Narta protected area.
  • Sven Giegold, Deputy Chair of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, will introduce the solidarity project “Flamingo Revolution Club.”
